What is the Cheaper Home Batteries Program?
CHBP is the Government's effort to encourage renewable energy. The $2.3 billion initiative provides a rebate to homeowners who install a small-scale solar battery system.
With the rebate in place, the Government hopes to reduce grid strain during peak demand and help you lower electricity bills with solar energy storage.
Almost every Australian is eligible to join.
How Does a CHBP Subsidy Work?
Generally, homeowners can receive a 30% rebate for installing a battery system up to 100kWh, but there are some limitations as shown in the chart.
Let's break down the savings even more. If you have a 10kWh battery, you will receive a subsidy of $3,300, enough for a premium laptop.
But there's a time limit on this subsidy. For the best rebates of $372/kWh, you need to purchase batteries this year. They're gradually dropping to $100/kWh by 2030.

Depending on your energy provider, you could receive a different rebate under the Western Australia Residential Battery Scheme rebate.
